Welcome to the homepage of the ICS lab

Winter term lectures 11/12:
During winter term 11/12, the ICS Lab doesn't offer lectures.
Do your bachelor or master thesis at ISS:
The institute "Integrated Circuits and Systems Lab (ICS)" is dedicated to research and teaching in the area of embedded systems design and non-standard computer architectures. Originally oriented towards the investigation of design methods of digital hardware components, the area of interest has shifted over the years to issues related to the cooperation of software for programmable standard processors and application specific hardware components, which now make today's efficient systems in information processing possible. Particular emphasis is placed upon embedded systems, which provide the information processing in superordinated interdisciplinary systems (e.g., robots, automotive and avionic transportation means, or cellular phone systems). In contrast to standard applications on off-the-shelf computers (e.g., Windows/Intel personal computers) such tasks must be realized under strict restrictions with respect to execution time as in real time systems, to dependability and safety, and under stringent non-functional constraints regarding, e. g., memory requirements or power consumption, as present in control units for the powertrain in automobiles. Field operational trial started at research project simTD

After several years of preparation the field operational trial in car-to-car research project simTD (Safe and Intelligent Mobility - Test Field Germany) has started. Until end of this year the car-to-car communication technology and over 20 applications are tested within countless test trial with 120 vehicles and up to 450 test drivers in and around the city of Frankfurt.
Employees of the Integrated Circuits and Systems Lab thereby work, on behalf of the Adam Opel AG, on specifying the system and specifying, developing, integrating, and testing the Road Weather Warning application.

ICS Lab successful on the HOST 2012

At the IEEE Int. Symposium on Hardware-Oriented Security and Trust, the ICS Lab was able to place two contributions:

ICS Lab successful on the DATE'12

At the IEEE/ACM Design Automation and Test in Europe 2012 (DATE'12), the ICS Lab was able to place several contributions: The acceptance rate of papers at the DATE is around 25%.

CASED successful on the FPT' 11

All three submissions of our research group were accepted at the IEEE International Conference on Field-Programmable Technology (FPT'11): The acceptance rate of FPT'11 was only 27%.

Spotlight Paper in IEEE Transactions on Computers

The journal paper "A Novel Cryptoprocessor Architecture for the McEliece Public-Key Cryptosystem" of Abdulhadi Shoufan, Thorsten Wink, H. Gregor Molter, Sorin A. Huss, and Eike Kohnert was featured as spotlight paper on the IEEE Transactions on Computers website in November 2010.

Book "Design Methodologies for Secure Embedded Systems"

On the occasion of the 60th birthday of Prof. Sorin A. Huss, a Festschrift named "Design Methodologies for Secure Embedded Systems" (ISBN 978-3-642-16766-9) is published by Springer in their "Lecture Notes in Electrical Engineering" series.

Outstanding Paper Award

Hagen Stübing, Attila Jaeger, Norbert Bißmeyer, Christoph Schmidt, and Sorin A. Huss were awarded with an Outstanding Paper Award on the 17th ITS World Congress (2010) for their contribution "Verifying Mobility Data under Privacy Considerations in Car-to-X Communication". The ITS World Congress is one of the largest academic conferences in Intelligent Transport Systems field.

Diploma Examination

The diploma examination will take place on October, 13th. Dates can be seen at our lab in A3.

Best Support-In-Exercises Award

On 17.12.2009 the student council awarded Alexander Biedermann and H. Gregor Molter for the best student support in the excercises of the lecture "Technical Principles of Computer Science I (WS2008/2009)". Thank you very much!

CAST Förderpreis-Award

In the scope of CAST Förderpreis-Award on 20/11/2009, Nico Huber came in third in the category "Bachelor Thesis".

In his thesis, which he did in the Integrated and Circuits Lab, Nico designed and implemented the complex CMSS signature scheme on an FPGA platform. With this solution he achieved a speedup of up to 70 compared with software solution.

Book Publication - Cryptographic Coprocessor for Server

In august 2008 the german book Kryptographischer Coprozessor für Server: Effiziente und flexible Multi-Core-Architektur für Server als System-on-a-Chip (ISBN: 978-3-63-905437-8) by H. Gregor Molter has been published at VDM Verlag Dr. Müller.

Best Paper Award

Dr. Abdulhadi Shoufan and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sorin A. Huss were awarded one of three Best Paper Awards on the conference "Sicherheit 2008" for their contribution "Schlüsselverwaltung im sicheren Multicast" engl.: Group Key Management in Secure Multicast. This conference, which is organized by the "Gesellschaft für Informatik GI" presents the most renowned security congress in the german-speaking contries.
